5 Years of the Movie Tomb Raider - 2018
To celebrate five years of the film, we decided to put together this article to record how much this work done by Roar Uthaug and starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander marked the franchise forever.
The film is an adaptation of the game Tomb Raider, released in 1996 and which we were lucky enough to see in cinemas already released in 2001 and 2003. On both occasions, Angelina Jolie played the classic character Lara Croft, the one who used two pistols braids and that sarcasm and independent behavior attracted millions of fans around the world.
Angelina masterfully exercised what everyone expected, being approved by the majority of Tomb Raider fans, who delivered what a Lara fan really expected. This time, this plot was based on the 2013 Tomb Raider game. Inexperienced Lara Croft, afraid, always following her father's advice.
However, with a huge fan base of the game launched in 2013, Tomb Raider was expected to be a cinematographic work adapted directly to the big screen according to the narrative of the game's plot. The casting of a new actress to play Lara Croft was much compared to the first films, but it was a new story, new plot, a Lara that had not yet become a Tomb Raider.
Alicia managed with greatness to incarnate and build everything she should have. Emotion, action, behavior and attitude of how we saw the growth of Lara Croft in the games of the current generation.
Curiosities that you may not know about the movie Tomb Raider:
Just like Jolie, who won an Oscar in the category of best supporting actress for Girl, Interrupted (1999), Alicia Vikander also won the same award and in the same category for her performance in The Danish Girl (2015).
With the increase in the number of women playing video games, Lara's appearance changed to adapt to the new audience, changing the tighter and shorter clothes for a more comfortable look. This change was reflected on the big screen, where the protagonist wears simple clothes that do not mark the body so much when compared to those of Tomb Raider played by Angelina Jolie.
Junkie XL abandoned his project on Justice League (2017) to compose the soundtrack for this film.
Alicia Vikander made a point of doing all the stunts that her character required without having to use stuntmen for that.
Daisy Ridley, from Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), was cast to star in the film. Saoirse Ronan, Emilia Clarke and Cara Delevingne were also considered to play Lara Croft.
This new production is a reboot of the franchise formed by Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Origin of Life (2003). In this film that was very detonated by the critics, it earned, worldwide, US$ 156 million, against the US$ 274 million of the first film.
“There were rumors earlier this year that negotiations were being held that a second post-Tomb Raider 2018 film had been agreed upon and there was no way to redeem it in time on a corporate basis.
MGM asked the rights holders for a little more time, but their patience has run out.” reveals the source.
In addition, the cancellation is also linked to the project being with a growing budget, and creative differences between actress Alicia Vikander and director Misha Green.
